About the position

The Estimator II position at Performance Contracting Group involves performing detailed quantitative takeoffs on construction projects, analyzing blueprints and specifications, and establishing labor productivities based on historical data. The role requires understanding market conditions to establish margin percentages, maintaining relationships with vendors, and managing subcontractor work. The estimator will also be responsible for contract administration, job scheduling, cost monitoring, and financial analysis on assigned projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed quantitative takeoffs on construction projects by analyzing blueprints/drawings, site visits, specifications, and other front-end documentation.
  • Establish labor productivities for estimates based on historical data and complexity of planned project.
  • Understand market conditions including competitive approach, backlog, and level of risk for work to establish margin percentages.
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain positive relationships with area vendors for competitive material and equipment pricing.
  • Participate in customer alignment objectives by creating and maintaining positive customer relations.
  • Responsible for the buyout of subcontractors for work outside of the self-perform group.
  • Manage contract administration for secured projects including issuing contracts and managing subcontractor's work including billings and change orders.
  • Assist in the hand-off of secured projects to the operations team.
  • Create and implement job schedules; coordinate with field supervisors and foremen; and effectively communicate issues to negotiate optimal work sequence.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures on assigned projects.
  • Complete and be accountable for job cost control measures through monthly financial analysis worksheets on assigned projects.

Requirements

  • Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science, or a related field.
  • 1 year of experience as an Estimator or related occupation.
  • Experience analyzing construction regulations, scheduling projects, estimating/analyzing costs, and managing construction projects, information systems, and contracts.
  • Proficient in utilizing estimating & accounting software including Sage, On Screen Takeoff, and QuickBid.
  • Ability to interpret specifications and drawings for construction projects.
  • Experience utilizing estimating techniques, software, and databases for detailed project analysis.
  • Knowledge of Lean construction methodologies and their application in construction.
  • Strong communication skills to identify contradictions or questions related to scopes of bid work.
