About the position

The Estimator/Preconstruction Manager at Skyline Construction plays a crucial role in leading constructability reviews and preparing detailed estimates for commercial interior projects. This position involves close collaboration with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors, primarily focusing on negotiated projects in sectors such as corporate office, life science, healthcare, and advanced technology. The role requires travel between office locations as needed and emphasizes effective communication and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead constructability reviews and prepare estimates for commercial interior projects.
  • Prepare detailed instructions to bidders and comprehensive bid packages.
  • Respond to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and participate in client interviews and pitches.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers and vendors regarding pricing and requests.
  • Work with subcontractors to manage their requests efficiently.
  • Prepare and distribute time-sensitive materials for projects.
  • Coordinate team activities from conceptual pricing to proposal.
  • Solicit bids, communicate with bidders, and evaluate subcontractor proposals.
  • Monitor and update vendor information and manage vendor databases.
  • Prepare detailed estimate updates and variance summaries as design and scope change.
  • Participate in Design Development and Value Engineering sessions with project teams.
  • Prepare and present cost and budget information to clients.
  • Develop business with new and existing customers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a Commercial Construction Estimator, preferably in the Tenant Improvement Marketplace.
  • Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field is a plus but not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Estimating software (OST or similar), Project Management software (Procore or similar), and Scheduling software (MS Project or similar).
  • Excellent listening skills and strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Creative and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with commercial construction project management software.
  • Knowledge of unit costs and factors affecting construction costs.
