About the position

The Estimator/Project Coordinator for Steel & Metals at BYN IRON WORKS is responsible for reviewing drawings and preparing estimates for time, materials, and labor for structural steel and miscellaneous metal projects. This role requires effective interaction with contractors, owners, and engineers/architects, emphasizing critical thinking, analytical skills, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Prepare steel estimates for structural steel and miscellaneous metal projects, including add-on work and change orders.
• Negotiate with general contractors and owners for the best and final proposal and pricing.
• Read, understand, and incorporate bid instructions and detailed specifications into each estimate.
• Read and understand industrial and commercial contract drawings.
• Prepare an accurate take-off of materials included in the jobs, estimating all necessary labor, materials, equipment, and delivery costs.
• Structure written quotes systematically as required by bid documents.
• Estimate steel erection projects of varying complexity from start to finish.
• Develop estimates from drawings, blueprints, shop drawings, and other construction documents.
• Communicate professionally and effectively using both verbal and written communications.
• Excel under pressure to meet budget and project deadlines.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
• Submit RFIs, send out RFQs to vendors, and follow up to ensure timely receipt.

Requirements

• 5 years of experience in construction estimating.
• Proficiency in Bluebeam and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Ability to read and understand industrial and commercial contract drawings.
• Experience in estimating steel erection projects from start to finish.
• Critical thinking and analytical skills.
• Attention to detail and complex problem-solving abilities.
