About the position

The position involves preparing and taking ownership of cost estimating for bids and project proposals at Saulsbury Industries. The role focuses on identifying risks and opportunities while maintaining a winning strategy for project proposals. The estimator will be responsible for ensuring competitive and accurate estimates that align with financial outcomes, collaborating with various teams to support project budgeting and strategic positioning.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for quantity take offs, cost estimating, cost analysis, bid reviews and document management.
  • Significant responsibility for competitive and accurate estimates in relation to margin and effective financial outcomes.
  • Organizes and manages centralized cost estimating models to ensure current and strategic pricing data is used during proposal development.
  • Schedule bid reviews with appropriate team members for final approval.
  • May personally develop estimates for large or complex projects, specifically EPC conceptual estimates.
  • Works closely with Operations and Business Development to determine budgeting and strategic position for project opportunities being considered.
  • Interfaces with Operations and Construction to determine appropriate wage rates for labor.
  • Conducts bid review meetings with senior, business line, and executive management.
  • Interface with the Site Construction Team, Home Office Engineering team, Site Engineering Team, and Field Personnel as required to complete all assigned tasks.
  • Maintain tracking system that reflects current project budgets and accommodates for any scope changes.
  • Enforce and adhere to all Policies and Processes as it relates to this position.
  • Ensure timely project completion through project scheduling, expediting of material deliveries and the management of material and document submittals/approvals.
  • Review and approve subcontractor, vendor payment applications and miscellaneous invoices.
  • Negotiate, prepare, issue and execute change orders (proposals) to owners, design team, subcontractors and others, and prepare revisions to original budget because of changes and revisions to work.
  • Initiate, establish and maintain working relationships with owner, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors to facilitate construction activities.
  • Provide periodic audits of site construction progress.

Requirements

  • Self-motivated with skills to motivate others.
  • 5 years' experience with industrial construction estimating & project management.
  • Possess working knowledge of all projects plans, specifications, Owner Contract, subcontracts, purchase orders, daily correspondence, drawings, submittals and all other project related documents and maintain a complete and accurate set of as-built drawings.
  • Experience in the power/utility market preferred.
  • Possess skill and understanding in conceptual estimating for EPC type projects.
  • Proven project estimating management success.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions to manage cost and price factors that influence customer acquisition, retention and revenue.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Advanced knowledge or estimating strategies and techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of construction industry practices, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities.
  • Occasional travel required.
