About the position

The Heavy Civil Estimator position involves analyzing data and collaborating with project teams to develop accurate cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects. This role is essential for ensuring that projects are completed within budget while maintaining high quality standards. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills and a passion for the construction industry.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze company data, exchange rates, and prices using software packages.
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop accurate cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements.
  • Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
  • Prepare comprehensive bid proposals and submit them within the specified timelines.
  • Utilize industry knowledge and expertise to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising on project quality.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current construction market trends, materials, and labor costs.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals for accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure accurate and timely bid submissions.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and industry events to network and gather information for bid preparations.

Requirements

  • 5 - 10 years of experience in heavy civil estimating or a related field.
  • Proficient in analyzing company data and utilizing software packages for estimates.
  • Solid understanding of construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate and negotiate with stakeholders.
