About the position

As an Estimator at Smith & Sell Construction, you will be responsible for providing accurate cost estimates that are crucial for project success. This role involves collaborating with Project Managers and clients to assess project requirements, calculate material and labor costs, and develop competitive bids. Your analytical skills will be essential in estimating costs, identifying potential risks, and refining project details, all while ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

• Develop Accurate Estimates by reviewing project documents, architectural drawings, and specifications.
• Coordinate with Teams to ensure accurate and comprehensive estimates.
• Solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers to gather reliable cost information and update project estimates.
• Identify potential risks and challenges and incorporate contingencies into cost estimates.
• Participate in initial project meetings to understand client needs and expectations, providing transparent insights into costs and timelines.
• Maintain updated records of material costs, labor rates, and other essential data to improve estimation accuracy over time.
• Prepare and manage estimation documentation, including proposals, cost breakdowns, and reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
• Minimum of 3 years in construction estimating, ideally in both residential and commercial projects.
• Proficiency in estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Buildertrend is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze data, read plans, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a knack for explaining complex information clearly to clients and teams.
• Works well with other departments, vendors, and clients; open to feedback and willing to adjust estimates as needed.
