About the position

The Ethanol Plant Operating Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and monitoring of equipment and control mechanisms within an ethanol plant. This role requires proficiency in operating and troubleshooting mechanical control systems and utility equipment, as well as ensuring compliance with research protocols in a confidential environment. The position involves physical work and may require weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, prepares, starts up, operates, and shuts down machinery and equipment using research protocols and standardized operating procedures.
  • Monitors and controls special process streams, waste streams, and client-confidential products according to customers' directions.
  • Collects and records research data, obtains samples from various stages of the operation process, and conducts tests and measurements of quantities and qualities of process materials.
  • Operates plant analytical devices, completes recordkeeping logs, and maintains operation log books.
  • Disassembles, inspects, cleans, and repairs operating equipment and machinery following pilot plant operating trials.
  • Works with Research Engineers to ensure plant process systems are prepared or modified to accommodate special operating conditions.
  • Ensures analytical laboratory samples are obtained from proper sources at appropriate time intervals and reviews laboratory analytical test results.
  • Monitors and inventories raw materials, plant process rates, production efficiencies, and product output.
  • Maintains records of client materials for reporting to regulatory agencies and ensures regulatory compliance data and logs are up to date.
  • Conducts safety meetings with personnel on shift, addressing specific safety concerns of research protocols.
  • Provides leadership for special projects assigned by Research Engineers or Director.

Requirements

  • High School Graduation or equivalent.
  • Any combination totaling three years (36 months) of work experience in renewable fuels, chemicals, refining, brewing, or research plant operations, including experience in grain handling operations, fermentation/distillation/dehydration processes, utility operations, and related laboratory techniques.
  • OR college coursework equivalent to 60 semester hours or an Associate Degree in Process Operations Technology (or related program) equals two years (24 months).
  • OR 90 semester hours in Process Operations Technology (or related program) equals three years (36 months).
  • OR 120 semester hours or a Bachelor's Degree in mechanical or industrial engineering.
