About the position

The Data Operations and Technology unit, within the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA), is seeking a highly skilled Senior ETL Developer with extensive experience in the Talend Data Fabric toolset. This role is crucial for assisting with the development efforts to convert an existing ETL system to the Talend ETL technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for understanding and following all CHIA supplied requirements, asking clarifying questions as needed, and collaborating with CHIA staff to ensure the project progresses from initiation to completion. In this position, the developer will utilize the Talend ETL toolset to create new ETL jobs, design and implement ETL processes for extracting and transforming data from various sources, including Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server databases. The role also involves designing and developing necessary database tables along with the required constraints as per project specifications. The developer will work closely with team members to understand source system structures and data retrieval methods, supporting the development of data transformation logic using ETL tools or scripting languages such as SQL, Bash, and Python. Additionally, the developer will be responsible for cleaning, validating, and transforming data to meet target schema and quality standards, executing data quality improvement plans, and participating in troubleshooting activities to maintain data integrity and process efficiency. This position requires a strong understanding of HIPAA policies and the ability to work independently in a hybrid work environment, managing competing priorities effectively while maintaining organized and detailed work habits.

Responsibilities

  • Use the Talend ETL toolset to create new ETL jobs.
  • Design and implement ETL for extracting and transforming data from diverse sources, such as Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server databases.
  • Design and develop database tables necessary along with the necessary constraints as per the requirement.
  • Collaborate with team members to understand source system structures and data retrieval methods/techniques, and tools within the organization.
  • Support the development of data transformation logic using ETL tools or scripting languages like SQL, Bash, Python, etc.
  • Clean, validate, and transform data to conform to target schema and quality standards.
  • Work with the team to execute data quality improvement plans.
  • Participate in troubleshooting activities to maintain data integrity and process efficiency.

Requirements

  • Experience using Talend Data Fabric in a professional environment.
  • Demonstrable knowledge with the Talend Data Fabric tool, ESB, and MDM development tasks and processes, particularly creating ETL from Technical specifications and converting ETL from other third party ETL tools and frameworks.
  • Five years' experience working for a health data organization performing ETL Development activities.
  • Three years' experience with database, data warehouse, ETL, business intelligence, or software development.
  • Experience in developing projects using Talend with Data Integration and Cloud Integration working with large datasets.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (Azure/AWS) and Microsoft DevOps Git Repos.
  • Experience with Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server database technologies.
  • Able to create/modify tables, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and other DB objects.
  • Ability to work independently in a hybrid work environment.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of HIPAA policies and working with PII and PHI sensitive data.
  • Effective at managing competing priorities and can work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal and written, along with excellent documentation skills.
  • Comfortable working under tight deadlines while maintaining well organized, detailed, and process-oriented work habits.
