About the position

The Principal Engineer - Cloud Engineer at Navy Federal Credit Union is responsible for researching, evaluating, designing, implementing, and maintaining systems and product solutions. This role requires expert knowledge of engineering principles and involves coordinating activities across multiple IT disciplines and vendors. The engineer will focus on cloud engineering, delivering computing services, and ensuring seamless integration of various technologies within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead integration of product technologies across multiple ongoing projects.
  • Define application design and delivery adhering to a Service Oriented Architecture paradigm.
  • Drive system requirements, specifications, and working parameters using systems engineering best practices.
  • Lead development work streams for creating compliant platforms.
  • Responsible for systems analysis, design, development, integration, enhancement, and deployment.
  • Lead deployment of new modules, upgrades, and fixes.
  • Define, develop, or modify software application modules or enterprise-wide software systems.
  • Implement integration plans and interface with testing teams for integration testing.
  • Prepare and present functional design specifications and project process flows.
  • Provide detailed information for hardware and software selection and implementation techniques.
  • Research, evaluate, recommend, and implement IT solutions that align with business needs.
  • Plan how new systems will be built and integrated using holistic knowledge of IT products.
  • Install, maintain, and configure infrastructure applications.
  • Create and manage the lifecycle of technical specifications for applications and infrastructure.
  • Review solutions for alignment with customer objectives and industry best practices.
  • Define and establish governance mechanisms for knowledge management and sharing platforms.
  • Create operational artifacts, run-books, and service level agreement documents for Cloud Data Platform services.
  • Serve as an advisor on specialized engineering requirements.
  • Participate in the creation of entire systems including clients, server hardware, and databases.
  • Provide technical direction and leadership to other engineers; serve as a coach and mentor.
  • Identify potential problems in design, quality, or operation and initiate corrective action.
  • Maintain technical expertise in network and computer hardware and software interconnection.
  • Identify opportunities to mitigate risk and improve performance and functionality.
  • Drive system testing including evaluation, verification, and validation activities.
  • Install, maintain, and configure systems infrastructure on a distributed network.
  • Provide technical expertise in current and emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in systems engineering, software engineering, or information systems management at the enterprise level.
  • Advanced knowledge of IP internetworking and LAN Switching Protocols.
  • Significant experience with Object Oriented Programming languages such as C#, C++, Java, Python, and .NET.
  • Experience with private, public, and hybrid cloud infrastructure like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop and Spark.
  • Experience in building and managing platforms like Service Now and Salesforce.
  • Experience with Agile software development practices including Scrum and JIRA.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Unix/Linux server operating systems.
  • Experience with modern network-enabled relational databases.
  • Advanced knowledge of Unix and Linux systems and networking protocols.
  • Advanced knowledge of databases, NoSQL systems, and storage technologies.
  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment tools like GIT and Jenkins.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles and methods for complex problem-solving.
  • Experience in cloud migration and engineering cloud-centric environments.

  • Advanced knowledge of banking/financial industry trends and products.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience with FIS ALS Application and related systems.
  • Experience with Mainframe, FIS Systematics, and Cloud.
  • Experience writing converging programs and debugging.
