About the position

The EV Charging System Specialist at WSDOT is responsible for establishing and managing the agency's Electric Vehicle Service Equipment (EVSE) Program statewide. This role involves developing standard procedures for data collection, standardizing EVSE, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. The specialist will provide technical guidance, coordinate EV charging site infrastructure projects, and report on electrical consumption for WSDOT and other agency vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the agency's Electric Vehicle Service Equipment (EVSE) Program statewide.
  • Develop standard procedures for data collection and standardize EVSE to meet program needs.
  • Provide technical guidance and expert advice to regional staff and contract vendors.
  • Develop an EV charging station installation plan for priority locations statewide.
  • Determine placement and types of EV Charging infrastructure based on agency needs and funding.
  • Develop statements of work (SOWs) and manage projects in partnership with WSDOT Facilities and Maintenance.
  • Use specialized software to create vehicle-specific RFID cards for EV charging stations.
  • Develop processes and policies for electrical data collection from WSDOT EVSE locations.
  • Collect and report on electrical consumption at WSDOT TEF EV charging sites.
  • Identify electric usage in Kilowatt hours (kWh) by vehicle and location.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of experience in fleet management, including electric vehicles and EVSE.
  • Experience with a Fleet Equipment Management System accessing data and reporting capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Familiarity with Washington State Executive Order 21.04.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions.
  • Knowledge of current EVSE and technological capabilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a Project Manager.
  • Experience in EV charger installations.
  • Understanding of electrical systems and local building codes.
  • Experience creating fuel cards for WSDOT fleet.
  • Familiarity with WSDOT's EVSE infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with AssetWorks Charge Management Software.
