About the position

The Evening Custodian position at Orchard Farm R-V School District involves maintaining a clean, sanitized, and attractive learning environment for students and staff. This role is essential for ensuring the safety and cleanliness of school facilities during evening hours, contributing to the overall mission of empowering learners in diverse communities.

Responsibilities

• Check and secure the building at the beginning and end of the shift to ensure safety and cleanliness.
• Clean rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas according to school district standards.
• Sweep, mop, buff, strip, and wax floors as needed.
• Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds.
• Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
• Remove graffiti and clean glass areas.
• Replace light bulbs as necessary.
• Set up and break down chairs, tables, and equipment in meeting and functional rooms.
• Clear snow from entrances and walks, and spread sand and ice melting chemicals.
• Perform grounds-keeping duties, clear debris, and maintain grounds.
• Receive deliveries and assist in unloading trucks and storing supplies.
• Deliver supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms, and other areas of the building.
• Empty wastebaskets, pick up and remove trash, and assist in recycling programs.
• Perform general cleaning and repair work, particularly during school vacations.
• Assist parents and other visitors to school buildings with special events and programs.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Any combination of education and experience providing the required skills and knowledge for successful performance.
• Ability to relate to students, staff, and parents in a positive manner.
• Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form.
• Ability to follow written and oral communication.
• Ability to problem-solve practical problems.
• Ability to use basic technology for inventory records, email, and district-required systems.
• Ability to reach, climb, bend, squat, stoop, and kneel frequently.
• Ability to move up to 50 lbs frequently and occasionally lift up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to use specific vision; close, peripheral, and depth perception.
• Ability to grasp tools and climb ladders.
