The Evening News Editor at The Wall Street Journal is a senior editorial role responsible for managing the evening news offering. The editor will work collaboratively with reporters and editors to deliver distinctive journalism and manage the evening news agenda, making necessary adjustments to daily lineups. The role demands confidence in running the news solo during evenings and the ability to handle a wide range of stories, from economic analyses to political coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Set the evening news agenda and execute goals in collaboration with bureaus.
  • Helm developing stories during the evening to ensure timely and distinctive journalism.
  • Oversee the curation of digital platforms during the evening, making changes and additions to daily lineups.
  • Commission and edit breaking news stories as needed.
  • Manage live coverage of political and world events during the evening.

Requirements

  • Seven years of experience in a senior editing role.
  • Twelve years of experience as a working journalist.
  • Proven ability to drive coverage across the newsroom.
  • Excellent line editing and headline-writing skills.
