About the position

The Evening/Overnight Cashier position at New Lenox Gas N Wash involves providing exceptional customer service and leadership in a retail environment. The role requires overseeing store activities, training staff, and ensuring compliance with regulations while maintaining a focus on customer satisfaction and store cleanliness. Cashiers must be 21+ to sell age-restricted products and are expected to work flexible shifts, including evenings and overnight hours.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service leadership and direction for the store and team of employees.
  • Monitor store activities to ensure proper transaction handling for maximum customer service.
  • Handle escalated customer concerns and emergencies in the absence of management.
  • Train, schedule, and coach new and current store associates to meet customer service needs.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations regarding age-restricted product sales.
  • Support management in ensuring leadership availability to customers and employees at all times.
  • Assist in identifying qualified applicants and making employment decisions.
  • Promote a customer service-focused environment and maintain store cleanliness.
  • Perform and supervise minor maintenance tasks to eliminate customer inconvenience.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies for the safety and security of customers and employees.
  • Assist in implementing merchandising, marketing, and foodservice programs.
  • Motivate and coach store associates on upselling techniques and review sales reports.
  • Ensure proper preparation and maintenance of food service products and stock levels.
  • Maintain a safe environment for all customers and employees by integrating health and safety initiatives into daily performance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Basic math skills and cash handling experience.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to train and coach employees effectively.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of POS systems.
  • Understanding of retail business management practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in sales and upselling techniques.
  • Knowledge of profit and loss statements and financial overview of the store.
  • Ability to handle customer and employee injuries and incidents.
