About the position

The Park Vista - A Doubletree by Hilton Hotel is seeking an Event/Banquet Manager to join our team in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our banquet services meet the high standards of hospitality that our guests expect. The Event/Banquet Manager will be responsible for overseeing the hiring and training of all banquet staff, which includes scheduling and conducting monthly meetings. This position requires a strong focus on demonstrating proper techniques and etiquette for various styles of service, ensuring that all staff are well-prepared to deliver exceptional service during events. In this role, you will supervise the setup of functions, which includes the placement of linens, silverware, china, and glassware according to specific event specifications. You will also be responsible for visually inspecting function rooms and equipment to ensure cleanliness and proper inventory. Effective communication is essential, as you will need to maintain a calm and positive demeanor while coordinating with kitchen staff, service teams, beverage services, convention services, and engineering staff, as well as the guest host. Responsibilities

  • Assist with hiring and training all banquet staff including scheduling and monthly meetings.
  • Supervise the setup of functions including placement of linens, silver, china, and glassware according to event specifications.
  • Visually inspect function rooms and equipment for cleanliness, proper inventory, and set-up.
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen, service, beverage, convention services, and engineering staff, as well as the guest host during events.
  • Ensure timely execution of events, quality service, and adherence to safety and health regulations.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics to inspire employees.
  • Ensure that labor costs are aligned with the forecast.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized.
  • Know food preparation and service.
  • Promote employee empowerment and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Select, train, supervise, develop, discipline, and counsel employees according to company policies.
  • Utilize knowledge of physical capabilities of banquet space.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, meeting all due dates.
  • Know basic bar terminology and wine service.
  • Order supplies for the banquet department.
  • Oversee and assist in the collection of payments for banquet functions.
  • Perform in the capacity of any position supervised.
  • Responsible for monthly inventory of all banquet equipment.
  • Set up banquet rooms for functions (chairs, tables, linens, etc.).
  • Solve unusual customer requests creatively.
  • Attend required meetings and conduct performance appraisals.

Requirements

  • Food/Beverage Service Worker Permit, where applicable.
  • Previous supervisory/management experience and skills.
  • 2 years of banquet management experience preferred.
  • Requires high school reasoning & language level.
  • Requires computer skills.
  • Read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Meet minimum age requirement of jurisdiction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other employees.
