About the position

BEST Crowd Management is seeking an Event Manager for the Minneapolis Convention Center. This role is ideal for individuals with a background in sports management or venue operations who are looking to advance their careers in the event management industry. The Event Manager will work under the direction of the Assistant Account Manager and/or Account/Area Manager, overseeing and coordinating all aspects of event operations to ensure optimal customer satisfaction. This includes operational planning and service delivery to meet customer requirements. The Event Manager will be responsible for identifying issues that arise during events and communicating these to the appropriate parties, including the Account Manager or Area Manager. In the event of emergencies, the Event Manager must respond promptly and ensure effective communication with relevant stakeholders. Maintaining positive relationships with clients and security personnel is crucial, and the Event Manager will achieve this through regular contact and support. As the direct supervisory contact for Event Supervisors, the Event Manager will oversee their performance and operational needs, providing motivation, coaching, and training. Evaluating the work performance of direct reports and making recommendations for assignments is also part of the role. The Event Manager will assist with scheduling using ABI and Ungerboeck, assign work tasks to Event Supervisors, and coordinate on-the-job training to ensure all staff are well-prepared for their responsibilities. Additionally, the Event Manager is responsible for maintaining and updating all Standard Operating Procedures and ensuring that all positions are organized and properly maintained. Other duties may be assigned as required. This position requires availability for nights and weekends, with average shifts scheduled from Wednesday through Sunday.

Responsibilities

  • Identify issues occurring at events and forward to Account Manager/Area Manager and/or Client as appropriate.
  • Respond to client or site emergencies as they arise, ensuring appropriate communication to Account Manager and/or Client.
  • Maintain positive client/security relationships through frequent team and client contact and support.
  • Serve as the direct supervisory contact for Event Supervisors regarding performance, operations, and department needs.
  • Supervise, motivate, coach, and train Event Supervisors and evaluate their work performance.
  • Assist with scheduling using ABI and Ungerboeck.
  • Assign work tasks to Event Supervisors, including Event Staff and Event Security.
  • Coordinate and conduct on-the-job training through development and improvement of standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures and training information are properly maintained and updated.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1-3 years of professional-level experience required.
  • Prior experience in security, event staffing, law enforcement, and/or military experience preferred.
  • Minimum of one-year previous experience in customer service, security, or related field.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Articulate and able to use good independent judgement and discretion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous security, military, EMS, or law enforcement experience preferred.
