About the position

The Event Manager at the University of Michigan is responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of various events, including weddings, departmental functions, and social gatherings. This role involves managing logistics, collaborating with service providers, and ensuring high-quality customer service while promoting a diverse and inclusive work environment. The Event Manager will work under the guidance of the Assistant Director and will indirectly supervise support and student staff as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning and execution of assigned programs, including scheduling and monitoring all logistical and support service arrangements.
  • Collaborate effectively with service providers to secure necessary services on campus and negotiate on behalf of clients.
  • Maintain program data in event management software and ensure timely updates and confirmations.
  • Assist onsite for programs as assigned by Associate and Assistant Directors of Event Services.
  • Respond to inquiries from returning clients regarding the use of facilities and services and log event details in the event management database.
  • Assist with the development of bid proposals, budgets, and contracts for new and returning business.
  • Accountable for creation and execution of program budgets and authorize payments for event-related expenses.
  • Serve on various committees and work teams as requested and participate in staff training and professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of event management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent partnering skills and initiative experience, including the ability to work in cooperation with staff and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge and proven experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple projects with proven accuracy and productivity.

  • Wedding planning experience.
  • Experience in or strong familiarity with higher education.
  • Experience in conference planning.
  • Experience with EMS, Social Tables, or other event management software.
