About the position

The Event Manager will directly support the development and execution of Gardner Business Media's live events. This role requires the candidate to manage multiple events across various brands, necessitating strong multi-tasking abilities and excellent inter-departmental communication skills. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in tradeshow and conference management, showcasing a proven track record in the industry. In this position, the Event Manager will lead the end-to-end planning, coordination, and execution of Gardner Business Media's events, which include heavy-machinery tradeshows and conferences. The role involves working closely with leadership to understand event objectives and target audiences, ensuring that all events align with company goals. The Event Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of event operations and logistics, which encompasses catering, audio-visual needs, sponsorships, marketing, budgeting, registration, security, and staffing. Additionally, the Event Manager will lead exhibitor services and sponsorship fulfillment, collaborating with Brand VPs to develop and execute sponsorship strategies. The role also requires sourcing, negotiating, and managing vendor relationships, as well as developing and maintaining event budgets, forecasts, and reconciliations. The Event Manager will create event timelines based on objectives and budgets, collaborate with marketing and design managers to implement marketing strategies, and develop and present post-event recaps while assessing opportunities for improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end planning, coordination, and execution of GBM's events, including heavy-machinery tradeshows and conferences.
  • Work closely with leadership to understand event objectives and target audience, ensuring events meet company goals.
  • Manage all aspects of event operations and logistics, including catering, audio visual, sponsorships, marketing, budgeting, registration, security and staff.
  • Lead exhibitor services and sponsorship fulfillment.
  • Collaborate with Brand VPs to develop and execute sponsorship strategy.
  • Source, negotiate, and lead vendor relationships.
  • Develop and maintain event budgets, forecasts, and reconciliation.
  • Develop event timelines based on objectives and budgets.
  • Collaborate with marketing & design managers to create and implement marketing strategies and timelines.
  • Develop and present post-event recaps and assess opportunities for improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Exhibitor management software experience, preferably with MapYourShow.
  • Experience developing registration program; preferably with Convention Data Services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; Excellent Excel skills a plus.
  • Experience in operational and technical production of medium-large scale tradeshows, including building a floor plan, knowledge of North American exhibitor display rules, utilities and more.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Willingness to travel.
