About the position

Manhatta, a restaurant under Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group, is seeking an Event Operations Manager to oversee the execution of all private events hosted at the venue. This role is pivotal in ensuring that events run smoothly and that guests receive exceptional service. The Event Operations Manager will be responsible for managing multiple events simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, requiring a blend of organizational skills and hospitality expertise. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and possess strong leadership abilities to guide the team in delivering memorable experiences for guests. In this role, the Event Operations Manager will lead the execution of events, ensuring that all teams are aligned and that every detail is meticulously planned and communicated well in advance of the event date. Building and maintaining positive relationships with guests is crucial, as the manager will serve as the main point of contact on the day of the event, ensuring that all inquiries and requests are handled promptly and professionally. The manager will also be responsible for ensuring that all necessary materials and food & beverage products are available and in good condition for each event. Additionally, the Event Operations Manager will be tasked with accurately accounting for event sales in the POS system, addressing any discrepancies with the sales and accounting teams. Training and ongoing education for team members will be a key focus, as the manager will implement and maintain private dining service standards, providing coaching and guidance to foster growth and development within the team. Anticipating staffing needs in collaboration with the event sales team and scheduling manager is also a critical aspect of this role. The position requires the ability to perform various roles during events, including host, expeditor, bartender, and managerial duties, as needed. Compliance with HR practices and health department regulations is essential to ensure the smooth operation of events.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of all events in the Manhatta space, ensuring alignment and clear communication between all teams and all details are in place well in advance of the event date.
  • Develop and maintain positive guest relationships by ensuring hospitality in all interactions, quick follow-up and follow-through on inquiries and requests, and by serving as the main point of contact on the day of the event.
  • Ensure that all materials and F&B products required to execute events are in-house, accessible, and in good condition.
  • Accurately account for event sales in the POS system, communicate discrepancies with sales team and accounting team.
  • Implement and maintain private dining steps of service by leading training and ongoing education for all team members and providing coaching and guidance, ensuring that pathways for growth and development are attainable for all.
  • Anticipate staffing needs within a 2-week lead time in collaboration with the event sales team and scheduling manager.
  • Perform as host, expeditor, bartender, and managerial duties at any given point throughout the course of an event.
  • Remain current and compliant with the correct HR practices and policies and ensure DOL/Health Department compliance as it pertains to the operation.

Requirements

  • Previous experience leading events in a similar setting
  • Hospitality Degree or equivalent expertise gained from time on the job
  • Strong Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point)
  • Ability to stand most of the time, reach with arms and hands, bend and stoop, and lift and move objects of 20lbs or more.
