About the position

The Event Planner/Meeting Coordinator at the University Club of MSU is a full-time position that primarily operates Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours as needed. This role is pivotal in working directly with clients to sell, schedule, plan, and coordinate various banquet and meeting events at the member club and executive conference center. The position emphasizes hospitality and customer service, aiming to create personalized solutions for clients while enhancing the club's reputation through the orchestration and delivery of events. In this role, the Event Planner/Coordinator will produce event sales and serve as the primary interface between clients and the facility, managing both social and business events. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a team environment to ensure the seamless execution of events through coordination with internal departments. Once the event details are finalized, the planner will hand over the booked events to banquet managers for execution and delivery. Candidates should possess practical knowledge of social customs, etiquette, and fine food and beverage service. A professional demeanor, poise, and excellent interpersonal skills are essential, along with refined verbal and written communication abilities. The ideal candidate will have effective time management and organizational skills, extensive experience in customer service, and proven knowledge of event and meeting planning sales. A background in hospitality business, equivalent to a four-year college degree, along with two or more years of related experience, is required. The role is suited for a detail-oriented team player who can work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating the ability to follow complex processes and anticipate how changes may impact event planning.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with clients to sell, schedule, plan, and coordinate banquet and meeting events.

  • Experience as a meeting planner is preferred.
