About the position

The Event Planner at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is responsible for leading and coordinating the planning and implementation of events, trainings, meetings, and conferences for the North Carolina Institute for Public Health (NCIPH) and the Department of Public Health Leadership and Practice (PHLP). This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including staff, faculty, students, and community members, to ensure successful event execution while adhering to university policies and budgetary constraints. The position may offer a hybrid work arrangement and requires occasional travel and work during evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the planning and implementation of NCIPH and PHLP events, trainings, meetings, and conferences.
  • Collaborate with staff, faculty, students, and external partners to manage all aspects of events including planning, procurement, registration, and logistics.
  • Handle budgeting, expense transactions, and financial monitoring for events.
  • Uphold applicable policies and procedures while recommending process improvements for service delivery and fiscal stewardship.
  • Provide updates and clear reports on logistical planning for events to departmental leadership and staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Zoom.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • Possession of a valid NC driver's license for travel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated skills in events or project management, preferably in an academic or nonprofit setting.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating logistics for complex events in a higher education setting.
  • Interest in public health with some experience in the field.
  • Experience with registration technology platforms such as Cvent and DestinyOne.
  • Familiarity with project management software such as Asana.
