About the position

The Event Planning Instructor is responsible for providing training and instruction in event planning, focusing on budgeting, venue selection, vendor management, and marketing. This part-time position involves coordinating events, mentoring participants, and ensuring inclusivity for individuals with disabilities. The role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training and instruction in event planning, including budgeting, venue selection, vendor management, marketing, and promotion of the event.
  • Reach out to vendors for assigned events and ensure timely setup and food ordering within budget.
  • Train participants in event planning fundamentals specific to fun events and parties, including theme development, decor, entertainment, and interactive activities.
  • Ensure all training materials and activities are accessible to participants with disabilities, making necessary accommodations.
  • Coordinate all event planning with the Event Committee team, including decorations, food setup, payment collection, and flyer distribution.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to participants once employed in event planning positions.
  • Schedule all events on the calendar with the Event Committee Team.
  • Monitor participants' progress, provide feedback, and address any workplace issues with the consumer's case manager.
  • Maintain accurate records of participant progress, including assessments and training activities.
  • Report any injury or incident involving consumers or self immediately.
  • Accurately document information needed for billing purposes and submit required CARF paperwork.
  • Facilitate monthly safety meetings and evacuation drills with consumers.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in event planning, job coaching, vocational rehabilitation, or disability services.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a passion for advocating for individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and as an effective team player.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and math skills; proficient in office software, Google applications, and Case Magic software programs.
  • Excellent communication, grammar, and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • CPR and First Aid certificate required.
