About the position

The Event Production Manager at the University of South Carolina Aiken is responsible for ensuring the technical success of all events held at the USC Aiken Convocation Center. This role encompasses the management and maintenance of the venue's sound and lighting systems, ensuring that all technical aspects of events are executed flawlessly. The manager will develop and implement a comprehensive training program for part-time employees and departmental team members, focusing on reinforced sound management, equipment maintenance, and production labor. As the primary contact for both internal and external groups, the Event Production Manager will advise on event needs related to lighting and sound, and will also serve as a consultant for production equipment purchasing decisions. The position requires a broad understanding of acoustics and reinforced sound technology, as well as sound equipment maintenance and repair. The ideal candidate will have road experience in theater, concert, and arena presentations, particularly in diagnosing and solving sound problems in performance environments. The ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining excellent working relationships with subordinates is essential. Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field and have at least two years of experience in radio or TV programming, production, or engineering. Alternatively, a high school diploma with six years of relevant experience is acceptable. Certification in sound, lighting, and rigging is preferred. The Event Production Manager will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly sound and lighting booth, developing training programs, providing production creativity for events, managing staffing needs, and directing the technical installation of audio and visual equipment for presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the reinforced sound and lighting equipment.
  • Develop and implement a training program specific to the maintenance and operation of sound equipment and other production tasks.
  • Provide production creativity in external and University productions in the venue; calculate estimated expenses on staffing needs for events, perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain a roster of individuals that can be called upon to assist in events; train and direct a staff of part-time production technicians necessary for all presentations in the USC Aiken Convocation Center; serve as event house manager when needed.
  • Manage the reinforced sound in a performance environment for internal and external rentals as well as athletic activities within the USCA Convocation Center.
  • Direct the technical installation of all audio and most visual equipment needed for presentations in the USC Aiken Convocation Center to include both permanent and temporary installation; manage the setup of production equipment for events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 2 years' experience in radio or TV programming, production or engineering; or high school diploma and 6 years' experience in radio or TV programming, production or engineering.
  • Broad understanding of acoustics, reinforced sound technology, sound equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Road experience in theatre, concert and arena presentations, particularly in diagnosing and solving sound problems in a performance environment.
  • Ability to work under extreme and difficult time deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain working relationships with subordinates.
