About the position

The Event Production Manager (Prod Mngr II) at USC Aiken is a full-time position responsible for ensuring the technical success of all events held at the USC Aiken Convocation Center. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including the management and maintenance of the venue's sound and lighting systems. The Production Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive training program for part-time employees and departmental team members, focusing on reinforced sound management, equipment maintenance, and production labor. This position serves as the primary contact and advisor for both internal and external groups regarding their event needs related to lighting and sound, ensuring that all technical aspects are executed flawlessly. In addition to managing the technical elements of events, the Production Manager will also act as a consultant for the venue regarding the purchasing of production equipment. A deep understanding of acoustics, reinforced sound technology, and sound equipment maintenance and repair is essential for this role. The ideal candidate will have road experience in theater, concert, and arena presentations, particularly in diagnosing and solving sound problems in a performance environment. The ability to work under extreme time constraints while maintaining excellent working relationships with subordinates is crucial for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the sound and lighting systems in the USC Aiken Convocation Center.
  • Develop and implement a training program for part-time employees and departmental team members.
  • Act as the primary contact and advisor for internal and external group event needs related to lighting and sound.
  • Consult with venues on production equipment purchasing decisions.
  • Diagnose and solve sound problems in a performance environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 2 years' experience in radio or TV programming, production, or engineering; or a high school diploma and 6 years' experience in radio or TV programming, production, or engineering.
  • Broad understanding of acoustics and reinforced sound technology.
  • Experience in sound equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Road experience in theater, concert, and arena presentations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in sound, lighting, and rigging.
