About the position

The Event Program Manager at Chabot Space & Science Center is responsible for developing and delivering exceptional event experiences that enhance visitor engagement and loyalty. This role involves leading a team of event professionals, managing event logistics, and ensuring high-quality customer service during various events, including private rentals and educational programs. The position requires strong leadership, creativity, and the ability to adapt to the needs of both visitors and the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a team of event program production staff, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for staff.
  • Plan strategies based on Chabot's culture of inclusion and care for visitors.
  • Collaborate with various departments to coordinate event operations effectively.
  • Function as manager-on-duty for events, overseeing all event-related tasks.
  • Maintain department inventory and oversee supply organization.
  • Provide excellent customer service support as an event host.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and enforce museum event policies.
  • Create and organize event plans in advance, ensuring clear communication among all participants.
  • Manage Planetarium facility use at events, including programming and content execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality, event management, museum studies, or related experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in event management or hospitality leadership, preferably within a museum or cultural institution.
  • 2+ years' experience in customer service roles.
  • Proven track record of effectively leading and developing teams.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with CRM systems.
  • IT/AV experience required, including setting up projectors and audio equipment.
