About the position

We are seeking an On-Site Event Manager to play a key role in executing event operations at Sunset Mercantile in San Francisco, CA. The Event Manager will be responsible for overseeing all necessary tasks to set up, maintain, and conclude successful events. This position requires excellent communication and leadership skills to work effectively within a team of staff at each event. The Manager may also fill in for shifts at the info booth for farmers markets, ensuring a seamless experience for both vendors and community members. The Event Manager will cooperate with other management on-site to ensure the success of the event, leading staff in market set-up and breakdown activities. They will complete all tasks related to market set-up and breakdown, assign staff to tasks as needed, and ensure market readiness in time for market hours. The Manager will also manage a clean, safe, and high-functioning event, addressing any safety concerns that may arise and providing customer and vendor support as needed. Building positive relationships with vendors and community members is essential, as is ensuring that all vendor booths and business activities comply with local, state, and Sunset Mercantile regulations. In addition to market management, the Event Manager will fulfill info booth shifts as needed for Sunset Mercantile events. This includes collaborating with event staff to ensure a safe and welcoming experience for customers and vendors, setting up the info booth to be presentable at the start of the event, and occupying the booth during shifts to support community members. Responsibilities also include managing the cash box, facilitating EBT exchanges, and keeping accurate records in the petty cash log. The Event Manager will participate in team meetings and collaborate with staff throughout the week, sharing and receiving feedback as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperate with other management on-site to ensure the success of the event

  • Provide Customer and Vendor support as-needed
  • Build positive relationships with vendors and community members
  • Ensure all vendor booths and business activities abide by local, state, and Sunset Mercantile regulations
  • Safely store all market equipment and supplies
  • Fulfill Info Booth shifts as-needed for Sunset Mercantile Events
  • Collaborate with event staff to ensure a safe, welcoming experience for customers and vendors
  • Ensure info booth is set-up and presentable for community members at event start-time
  • Occupy info booth during shift, supporting community members as they visit
  • Provide information and resources to community members
  • Keep cash box safe and supervised at all times
  • Support community members with EBT exchange
  • Facilitate and log all vendor EBT exchanges
  • Keep accurate record in petty cash log
  • Pack up all info booth equipment and resources for safe storage at end of shift
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Sunset Mercantile management team
  • Collaborate as-needed with staff during the week via phone calls, text messages, and emails
  • Share and receive feedback with supervisor and other team members as needed

Requirements

  • 1+ years experience in event management or similar work
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Prior experience in a supervisory role preferred
  • Bilingual preferred: English / Chinese (Cantonese preferred) or English / Spanish
  • Familiarity with farmers markets and agriculture is a plus
