About the position

The Event Technical Support Service Manager plays a crucial role within the Video Engineering & Event Services department at Cornell University. This position is responsible for overseeing the Event Technical Support service, which includes managing a team of audio-visual engineers, service owners, technicians, and media producers. The team is dedicated to providing comprehensive audio-visual applications, infrastructure, and services that support the university's teaching, research, and outreach missions. The manager will coordinate technology support for significant university events such as Commencement Week, Reunions, New Student Convocation, and other high-profile gatherings, ensuring that all audio-visual needs are met with precision and professionalism. In addition to IT service management responsibilities, the Event Technical Support Service Manager will engineer audio-visual distribution solutions for events, provide consultative services to campus customers, and offer audio-visual support for executive offices and meeting spaces. The role requires a strong focus on customer service, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The manager will also be expected to foster a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment, promoting cooperation, respect, and inclusivity among team members and stakeholders. The position demands a flexible schedule, including extended hours during live events, and a commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, and inclusion within the university community. Responsibilities

  • Provide technology coordination and consultation for University events.
  • Act as Service Manager for the Event Technical Support and Media Production (ETSMP) service.
  • Design and implement systems for event support.
  • Provide audio-visual support for executive offices and meeting rooms.
  • Coordinate technology support for major university events such as Commencement Week and Reunions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and formal training.
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of experience in high profile event support and video streaming.
  • Experience designing and implementing complex audio-visual signal distribution systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and coordinate effectively within an enterprise IT organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous priorities with a strong customer service drive.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative and effective problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage customer interactions professionally.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Proficiency using MS Office 365, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience in and/or commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of overall enterprise IT service portfolio.
  • Experience with media production and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with microphone technique, sound reinforcement, videography, and video editing.
  • Avixa CTS certification.
  • Experience with live streaming applications such as Live Stream Studio.
  • Experience with web conferencing applications such as Zoom.
  • Experience with firewall management.
