About the position

The Events, Communications, and Office Manager at the Center for Research on Families (CRF) is a pivotal role responsible for leading and overseeing the communications, marketing, and national visibility efforts of the center. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including event management, communications strategy, and the management of the center's digital presence. The manager will be tasked with planning and implementing various live and online events, such as workshops, conferences, seminars, and annual dinners, while also supervising student workers and managing the logistics of a small office. In terms of communication responsibilities, the manager will lead the development and execution of the center's communication content and strategy, ensuring that the branding is consistent and effective. This includes creating multimedia marketing materials, managing social media accounts, and producing newsletters and other promotional materials. The role also involves writing feature stories, press releases, and other documents to enhance the center's visibility and engagement with its constituents. The manager will be responsible for maintaining the center's website, ensuring it is dynamic, user-friendly, and optimized for search engines. Event management is another critical aspect of this role, where the manager will oversee all logistics for center events, manage registrations, secure venues, and coordinate with vendors. The manager will also be responsible for gathering feedback from participants to improve future events. Additionally, the office management duties include supervising a team of student communication assistants, managing day-to-day operations, and serving as the primary point of contact for individuals seeking information about the center. Overall, this position requires a blend of strategic thinking, creativity, and strong organizational skills to effectively promote the center's mission and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Center's communication content and strategy.
  • Create and oversee Center branding and visibility efforts.
  • Develop and produce multi-media marketing and communication materials.
  • Manage the Center's website, ensuring content is up-to-date and engaging.
  • Plan and implement live and online events, including workshops and conferences.
  • Supervise student workers and manage office logistics.
  • Create and maintain the Center's social media presence.
  • Prepare annual budget recommendations for communication materials and events.
  • Coordinate with University Relations and maintain knowledge of UMass communication policies.
  • Develop outreach and marketing plans to increase event attendance.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree and five (5) years of related experience, or a Bachelor's degree with two (2) years of experience substituted.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a diverse population.

Nice-to-haves

  • Competence with PC and MAC computers and MS Office applications.
  • Experience with graphic design platforms such as Adobe Cloud Suite and Canva.
  • Professional photography and videography skills.
  • Advanced technical skills in website design and maintenance, including Drupal and HTML.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing a small office.
