About the position

The Events Convener at the Payne Institute for Public Policy, Colorado School of Mines, plays a crucial role in coordinating and facilitating events to enhance the university's visibility as a leading research institution. This position involves managing day-to-day event operations, supporting branding and marketing efforts, and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Colorado School of Mines-led events on and off campus, including planning and executing research-related events.
  • Support the Payne Institute for Public Policy and the Office of Research and Technology Transfer with event management and coordination.
  • Coordinate work with Continuing and Professional Education Services (CPES).
  • Manage the calendar, including scheduling meetings, communicating with constituents, and ensuring readiness for meetings.
  • Partner with Payne Research Support to complete necessary reports and manage expense reports accurately.
  • Plan and execute research-related events with Mines partners, including budgeting and managing event operations.
  • Schedule hotel reservations, business meetings, catering, and travel accommodations for visitors.
  • Manage and support student employees hired for events.
  • Conduct financial analyses and manage office-specific revenues and expenses related to events.
  • Prepare and oversee budget requests, communicating needs and priorities effectively.
  • Work closely with the Office of Communications and Marketing to align branding and media relations efforts.
  • Develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on the target audience.
  • Work with graphic designers to develop branding materials and public relations content.
  • Collect and organize relevant news and resources for marketing and fundraising purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with program development, management, and implementation.
  • Experience with organizing events.
  • Advanced technical and computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Excel, Planner, PowerPoint), videoconferencing applications, and email management.
  • Fiscal management and budgeting experience.
  • Proven customer service experience.
