About the position

The Events Manager at Marriott is responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of events at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center. This role involves coordinating with various departments and clients to ensure a seamless experience throughout all phases of the event, from pre-event preparations to post-event follow-ups. The Events Manager aims to maximize revenue opportunities through effective upselling and enhancing the overall event experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all event documentation and coordinate with Sales, property departments, and customers.
  • Ensure consistent, high-level service throughout pre-event, event, and post-event phases.
  • Manage event logistics and operations to ensure seamless progress of events.
  • Greet customers during the event phase and hand off to the Event Operations team.
  • Ensure billing accuracy and conduct bill reviews with clients prior to processing the final bill.
  • Manage group room blocks and meeting space for assigned groups.
  • Identify operational challenges and develop solutions in collaboration with property staff and customers.
  • Act as a liaison between field salesperson and customer throughout the event process.
  • Participate in customer site inspections and assist with the sales process as necessary.
  • Solicit feedback from property departments to enhance the Event Planner's experience.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and empower employees to do the same.
  • Coordinate and communicate event details to customers and property operations.
  • Follow up with customers post-event and handle guest problems and complaints.
  • Conduct formal pre- and post-event meetings to review group needs and feedback.
  • Assist in the sales process and revenue forecasting for customer groups.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with 1-2 years of experience in event management or related area.
  • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major with at least 1 year of experience in event management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in upselling products and services during the event process.
  • Familiarity with event design trends and customer service best practices.
