About the position

Coastal Forest Products, a leading wholesale supplier of wood and composite building products, is seeking a dedicated CAD Plan Designer to join our Engineered Wood Products (EWP) department. This full-time position is an exciting opportunity for individuals looking to contribute to a growing team while being rewarded for their hard work. The CAD Plan Designer will play a crucial role in providing technical support and plan design specifications to our established customer base, primarily retail lumberyards throughout New England. In this role, the CAD Plan Designer will be responsible for managing assigned design projects effectively and efficiently, ensuring that all plan designs and framing layouts are completed within designated project timelines. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of construction principles and how they impact a project's structural design. This position requires strong communication skills, as the designer will interact with retail customers and contractors to address product and technical inquiries. The CAD Plan Designer will create structural framing layouts and perform plan takeoffs for both commercial and residential projects. They will also be responsible for calculating the engineered wood products required for each project and ensuring that all designs meet the necessary specifications. The successful candidate will represent Coastal Forest Products in a professional manner, building collaborative relationships with customers and promoting additional company products. This position offers a dynamic work environment where adaptability and accountability are key. The CAD Plan Designer will be expected to follow both written and oral instructions while working closely with internal and external stakeholders to achieve project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to plan design / framing layout inquiries from local retail lumber yards.
  • Creates structural framing layouts and performs plan takeoffs for commercial and residential projects.
  • Interacts with retail customers and contractors regarding product and technical questions.
  • Ensures plan designs and framing layouts are supplied within designated project timelines.
  • Calculates the engineered wood products for the assigned project.
  • Communicates and collaborates with both internal and external individuals.
  • Represents Coastal in a professional manner and builds collaborative relationships with customers.

Requirements

  • General understanding of building construction.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Detail-focused with the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to be held accountable for results.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to understand customer's needs.
  • Follows written and oral instructions.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work strongly in a team atmosphere.
