About the position

The EWP Drafter/Truss Design position at Boise Cascade Company involves providing design and drafting services for Engineered Wood Products (EWP) and Truss Design. This role is essential for preparing working drawings and sketches for customer quotes and manufacturing, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of services to both internal and external customers. The position emphasizes a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement while supporting the company's operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design and drafting services for Engineered Wood Products (EWP) and Truss Design.
  • Prepare working drawings, sketches, and graphs from various sources including customer requests and blueprints.
  • Prioritize and coordinate work to accommodate expedited or special requests.
  • Provide plans to customers for sign-off and acceptance, including any changes.
  • Code and maintain drafting files for accurate retrieval and distribution to engineering staff and vendors.
  • Schedule truss and EWP order delivery.
  • Provide technical consulting and engineering services to distribution center customers as needed.
  • Compile placement plans for converting conventional framing materials to Boise Cascade BCI joists.
  • Make outside sales calls to lumberyards and construction job sites as required.
  • Operate and maintain various engineering and drafting equipment.
  • Initiate telephone sales for EWP and accessories.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement.

Requirements

  • College Degree or equivalent work experience in a related job function.
  • Working knowledge of CAD systems, blueprint reading, and drafting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Technical certification or associate degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of the building materials industry and structural experience preferred.
  • Strong math skills and effective communication skills.
  • Familiarity with engineering terms and specifications.
