The Yard Associate position at Palmer-Donavin involves managing the receipt, storage, and shipment of engineered wood products (EWP) in a safe and efficient manner. This role requires advanced skills in forklift operation and the use of cutting tools, with a strong emphasis on safety and product quality. The position is primarily outdoor-based, requiring attention to maintaining product viability in varying weather conditions. Responsibilities

  • Prepare shipments of engineered wood products (EWP) in the yard for delivery.
  • Accurately receive all EWP products from manufacturers using best practices.
  • Perform product handling assignments using an industrial forklift or manually pulling orders accurately for prompt shipment.
  • Ensure accuracy of products ready for shipment and collaborate with logistics/delivery personnel.
  • Build out pallets of engineered wood products (EWP) based on work orders while maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
  • Verify product quality and report/dispose of damaged or defective material.
  • Verify receipts of incoming shipments.
  • Use various power tools (chainsaws, handsaws, etc.) to cut wood to length based on order specifications.
  • Regularly use a tape measure and perform basic mathematical calculations, demonstrating proficiency with the tape measure.
  • Assist other forklift operators and truck/tractor drivers in manually loading or unloading products.
  • Maintain grounds in a safe, neat, and orderly manner and comply with company safety procedures.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required to meet the operational needs of the warehouse.

Requirements

  • Advanced forklift operation skills.
  • Knowledge of reading tape measures and performing basic mathematical calculations.
  • Experience with cutting tools such as hand saws, circular saws, and chainsaws.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to and over 75lbs.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a manufacturing/distribution or operations-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and teamwork skills.
