About the position
The position involves operating heavy machinery for excavation, grading, and construction tasks, while ensuring adherence to safety regulations and maintaining equipment. The operator will be responsible for various duties including monitoring operations, coordinating with crew members, and performing maintenance on machinery.
Responsibilities
- Operate equipment to excavate, move, and grade earth, erect structures, or pour hard surfaces.
- Learn and follow safety regulations to avoid hazards.
- Adjust controls to operate machinery such as bulldozers and excavators.
- Locate underground services before beginning work.
- Monitor operations to ensure health and safety standards are met.
- Align machine depth gauge markers with reference stakes and guidelines.
- Load and move materials using various equipment.
- Coordinate machine actions with crew members using hand or audio signals.
- Repair and maintain equipment, making emergency adjustments as necessary.
- Check fuel supplies at job sites to ensure availability.
- Connect hydraulic hoses and other mechanical linkages to tractors.
- Operate loaders for various tasks including demolition and cleanup.
Requirements
- Ability to understand work directions and communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Ability to work 8 to 10 hours per day outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physical capability to stand, kneel, lift up to 60 pounds, pull, squat, and walk.
- Maintains awareness of job site activities and equipment operations.
- Willingness and ability to perform manual labor.
