About the position

The Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System is seeking a full-time, board certified or board eligible Pathologist to join their team. The role involves responsibilities in General Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, and Clinical Pathology, with a focus on providing clinical and didactic teaching to pathology residents. The successful candidate will also participate in scholarly activities and oversee various Clinical Pathology Services, ensuring high-quality patient care and compliance with VA directives.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in general surgical pathology and non-gyn cytopathology sign-outs.
  • Share AP/CP coverage and call responsibilities with three other pathologists.
  • Provide clinical and didactic teaching to pathology residents.
  • Supervise all individuals in the Pathology and Laboratory Medical Service (PLMS).
  • Assume supervisory duties in the absence of the Service Chief.
  • Oversee Clinical Pathology Services including clinical chemistry, molecular pathology, hematology, microbiology, coagulation medicine, and blood bank.
  • Complete performance appraisals for PLMS staff.
  • Participate in the Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) process.
  • Serve as a member of the Procedure, Tissue, and Transfusion Quality Review Committee.
  • Maintain familiarity with VA directives regarding pathological analysis and laboratory operations.
  • Participate in VISN19 Pathology Group activities and report critical incidents.
  • Organize and co-chair monthly Pathology Staff meetings.
  • Participate in facility High Reliability Organization (HRO) activities.
  • Monitor and manage timely PLMS test result reporting.

Requirements

  • AP/CP board certified or board eligible Pathologist.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Experience in General Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board Certified in Cardiology preferred, but Board Eligibility may also be considered.
  • Additional board certification in Internal Medicine is preferred.
