About the position

The Executive Director of Development for the School of Computing, Data Sciences, & Physics (CDS&P) at William & Mary is a strategic fundraising leader responsible for advancing philanthropic efforts for the school. This role involves developing and executing strategies for institutional development, fostering a culture of belonging, and collaborating with the Dean and other university stakeholders. The position is based in Williamsburg, Virginia, and offers a flexible work environment, requiring occasional travel and additional hours beyond typical work hours.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and strategize private philanthropy efforts for the School of Computing, Data Sciences, & Physics.
  • Develop, implement, and execute strategies for institutional development to enhance philanthropic efforts.
  • Establish target markets and align philanthropic strategies to maximize impact.
  • Foster a culture of belonging and engagement within the school and university community.
  • Collaborate with the Dean and other university leaders to promote fundraising initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with demonstrated experience related to the position.
  • Significant experience in development/advancement roles in nonprofit or higher education settings.
  • Leadership and management skills to drive engagement and philanthropy.
  • Proven ability to plan, execute, and close significant major gifts of $100,000 and higher.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with persuasive language proficiency.
  • Advanced writing skills for drafting creative individual and corporate foundation relations strategies.
  • High level of independence and strong work ethic with integrity.
  • Significant organizational skills to manage multiple complex tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • An advanced degree in a related field.
  • Extensive fundraising experience with a track record of major gift solicitation and stewardship.
  • Experience in physics, data science, engineering, or related academic disciplines.
  • Demonstrated performance in leading fundraising strategy in an academic unit.
  • Experience with fundraising campaigns.
  • Management skills to educate and inspire fundraising professionals.
