About the position

The Executive Account Director for Business Development at Thermo Fisher Scientific is a senior role focused on securing and retaining business for the PPD division within the Biotech sector. This remote position requires proactive sales activities and engagement with clinical sponsors to position PPD as a preferred provider for clinical development work. The role involves developing proposals, negotiating contracts, and ensuring successful implementation of services while maintaining strong client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Secure and retain business for PPD through consultative sales activities with clinical sponsors.
  • Position PPD as a primary or preferred provider for clinical development work.
  • Qualify deals and develop proposals, including defining solutions and pricing structures.
  • Serve as the primary contact until work is sold, coordinating with relevant clinical development areas for implementation.
  • Act as a liaison between sponsors and the company on business development activities.
  • Gather data on marketing trends and driven products/services and pricing.
  • Orchestrate RFP strategy calls and develop client proposals and presentations.
  • Negotiate and close contracts, signing new business authorizations at or above assigned goals.
  • Make cold calls and client visits, maintaining a sales database and activity reports.
  • Ensure client satisfaction through periodic contact and addressing any client dissatisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • 8+ years of experience in laboratory services and sales, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven track record of developing mid- and high-level business contacts.
  • Excellent social skills for managing relationships across Operations, Finance, and Marketing.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and developing sales leads and managing the sales process.
  • Understanding of sales automation systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
