About the position

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is seeking an experienced Director of Innovation to join the Strategic Initiatives Bureau. This role involves overseeing research and evaluation of legal strategies, emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in law enforcement. The Director will serve as a primary advisor to the Police Commissioner, focusing on long-term transformation and organizational effectiveness within the Department.

Responsibilities

• Oversee research and evaluation of legal strategy and emerging trends in law enforcement.
• Advise the Police Commissioner on strategic goals and innovative solutions.
• Represent the License Division at executive meetings and external meetings with city, state, and federal agencies.
• Evaluate policies, programs, and resources to enhance organizational effectiveness.
• Examine new technologies to support the Department's mission.

Requirements

• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• At least 7 years of recent full-time responsible legal experience after admission to the Bar.
• Significant litigation experience in constitutional and criminal issues.
• Familiarity with Department policies and operations.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity.
• Supervisory experience over other attorneys.
