About the position

The Executive Assistant I position within the Office of the Inspector General is a vital role that supports the operational and administrative functions of the department. This position is responsible for providing high-level administrative support to the Inspector General and other senior staff members. The Executive Assistant will manage schedules, coordinate meetings, and handle correspondence, ensuring that all communications are timely and professional. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. In addition to standard administrative duties, the Executive Assistant will be involved in preparing reports, maintaining records, and assisting with the organization of departmental events. The position may also require moderate overnight travel for meetings or training sessions. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while also being a team player. The Executive Assistant I will be expected to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in handling sensitive information. This role is governed by the Texas Board of Criminal Justice and requires adherence to all relevant policies and procedures. The successful candidate will also be required to obtain a certificate of course completion for the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) training within six months of employment, ensuring compliance with state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level administrative support to the Inspector General and senior staff.
  • Manage schedules and coordinate meetings for the department.
  • Handle correspondence and ensure timely communication.
  • Prepare reports and maintain departmental records.
  • Assist in organizing departmental events and activities.
  • Exercise discretion in handling sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Complete TLETS training and maintain eligibility for continued employment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • One year of full-time administrative support, secretarial, or technical program support experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
  • Criminal justice administration experience is preferred.
  • Ability to type 45 words per minute with no more than 10 errors.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a government or law enforcement setting.
  • Familiarity with Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) policies and procedures.
