About the position

If so, continue reading to learn more about this exciting Executive Assistant I opportunity in the State Capitol Police Section of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (DPS) in Raleigh, NC. This position functions in a confidential environment and serves as an Executive Assistant to the Director (Chief) of State Capitol Police. This includes conducting business operations and administrative details in the law enforcement Division.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Director (Chief) in long range planning and anticipated operational needs.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the expansion, continuation and repair and renovation budgets.
  • Serve as the primary purchasing agent for the agency in purchasing equipment and supplies.
  • Independently manage agency parking, equipment and maintenance contracts.
  • Responsible for programmatic/administrative functions that extend to the entire scope of operational activities.
  • Perform significant research, problem-solving, planning, and implementation that requires a substantive knowledge of multiple and varied programs that impact overall program/administrative operations.

Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate and apply knowledge in performance of administrative support tasks.
  • Ability to explain and interpret program information to clients/customers and staff; skill in practicing effective communication techniques, both orally and written.
  • Ability to analyze applicable program data and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate special projects, information systems, and day-to-day operations.
  • Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively in written form; ability to edit, adjusting language or terminology to meet needs of the audience or as appropriate; ability to use correct grammar, organization, and structure.
  • Ability to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; determine course of action; develop appropriate solutions.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, officials, and the general public.
  • Must have experience with in-person and telephone tact and patience with all types of individuals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working experience in planning, prioritizing, and organizing office workflow, and procedures.
  • Working experience with interpretation and application of personnel policies, procedures, and regulation.
  • Advanced knowledge of program services, policies, procedures, laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Working experience with Budget Administration.
