About the position

The Executive Assistant to the Commissioner at the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) plays a crucial role in managing the daily administrative operations of the Commissioner's office. This position involves a variety of tasks including calendar management, meeting coordination, travel arrangements, and handling confidential materials. The Executive Assistant is expected to support the Commissioner in various administrative capacities while ensuring compliance with policies and maintaining a high level of professionalism and discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Commissioner's calendar and coordinate meetings.
  • Track initiatives, tasks, or special projects to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Manage travel arrangements for the Commissioner and travel to professional association meetings as needed.
  • Handle phone calls, emails, and written documents for the Commissioner.
  • Refer inquiries regarding Commission policies to appropriate resources.
  • Manage the Commissioner's compliance filings and maintain a complex filing system.
  • Review legal opinions, speeches, and other confidential materials for accuracy.
  • Prepare complex correspondence and special reports.
  • Assemble and document orders, testimony, and motions for review by the Commissioner.
  • Transfer the Commissioner's notes and records to the case file after hearings.

Requirements

  • Considerable experience providing executive administrative support in a professional setting.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and prioritize competing deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a regulatory or governmental environment.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology and documentation.
