About the position

The Executive Assistant to the Head of the School of Engineering Education (ENE) plays a crucial role in supporting the leadership of a pioneering academic unit at Purdue University. Established in 2004, ENE is recognized nationally for its contributions to engineering education research and scholarship. This position is integral to the ongoing success and growth of the school, which not only leads in research but also manages the first-year engineering program and two undergraduate degree programs. The Executive Assistant will be involved in various administrative tasks that facilitate the smooth operation of the department, ensuring that the Head of ENE can focus on strategic initiatives and leadership responsibilities. The School of Engineering Education is committed to fostering an inclusive and socially connected environment that redefines the boundaries of engineering education. The Executive Assistant will support this mission by managing communications, organizing events, and coordinating activities that promote the school’s vision. This role requires a proactive individual who can handle multiple tasks, maintain confidentiality, and work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that deadlines are met and that the department operates efficiently. In addition to administrative support, the Executive Assistant will be expected to interpret policies and procedures, resolve issues independently, and make sound decisions that align with the department's goals. This position is not only about managing day-to-day operations but also about contributing to the strategic direction of the School of Engineering Education as it continues to expand its research enterprise and strengthen partnerships across campus and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level administrative support to the Head of the School of Engineering Education.
  • Manage communications and correspondence on behalf of the department head.
  • Organize and coordinate meetings, events, and activities for the department.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and other documents as needed.
  • Interpret policies and procedures to proactively resolve issues.
  • Balance multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Build and maintain relationships with individuals at all levels within and external to the university.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in a senior or lead administrative support role.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and balance multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in computer and related software skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Skilled in collaborating and communicating to build relationships with individuals at all levels.
  • Ability to identify problems and generate ideas for improvement.
