About the position

The Town of Mansfield, Connecticut, is seeking to fill the Executive Assistant position in the Office of the Town Manager. This role is essential for providing comprehensive administrative and clerical support to the Town Manager's Office, which includes Human Resources, the Town Council, and various assigned boards and commissions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong administrative and communications skillset, enabling them to establish collaborative working relationships with town staff, officials, and the general public. The Executive Assistant will be responsible for preparing, posting, and distributing Council and Committee agendas, minutes, and packets, as well as administering meeting technology. Additionally, the role involves preparing reports and briefing materials, maintaining the Town Manager's schedule, and responding to citizen inquiries. The Executive Assistant will also coordinate special projects and events, maintain filing systems and records, and process bills. This position is part-time, requiring approximately 35 hours of work per week, typically spread over four consecutive days from Monday to Thursday, with occasional evening or weekend work to accommodate Town Council meetings and operational needs. Mansfield is a vibrant community with a population of around 26,000, located in northeastern Connecticut. The town is home to the University of Connecticut's main campus and offers a unique blend of urban, suburban, and rural living. The community boasts a variety of cultural and educational offerings, numerous food and entertainment venues, and an abundance of parks and natural preserves ideal for outdoor activities. The Town of Mansfield operates under a Council-Manager form of government, with the Town Manager serving as the Chief Executive Officer responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Town under the policy direction of a nine-member Town Council.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the Town Manager's Office, including Human Resources, Town Council, and assigned boards and commissions.
  • Prepare, post, and distribute Council and Committee agendas, minutes, and packets.
  • Administer meeting technology for various town meetings.
  • Prepare and support the preparation of reports and briefing materials.
  • Maintain the Town Manager's schedule and respond to citizen inquiries.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an associate's degree in public administration, business administration, communications, or a related field; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Progressively responsible municipal or other public sector office management experience is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information is essential.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
