About the position

The Executive Chef will manage projects and collaborate with the Support Services and Operations Team within the Food & Child Nutrition Services Department. This role focuses on supervising food operations, ensuring quality food production, and providing excellent customer service. The Executive Chef will also be responsible for training staff, developing menus, and overseeing catering operations, while ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and governmental requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects and collaborate with Support Services and Operations Team.
  • Coach, train, and develop direct reports to maximize their effectiveness.
  • Supervise the operation of The Cafe at 9400, ensuring quality foods and excellent customer service.
  • Oversee catering operations, including menus, sales, and service.
  • Coordinate with Central Kitchen management on food preparation and delivery schedules.
  • Work with the Professional Development Supervisor to create culinary training programs.
  • Deliver job training and coaching for quality food production.
  • Develop, test, and create standardized recipes and menus for schools.
  • Create and coordinate signature food products for FCNS menus.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Supervisor on promotions and nutrition education programs.
  • Serve as a liaison for projects with district student culinary programs.
  • Investigate food quality complaints and suggest improvements.
  • Oversee organization and inventory of test kitchens.
  • Ensure food safety in school kitchens and test kitchen operations.
  • Assist with performance measures for customer and student satisfaction.
  • Project sales, food, labor, and supply costs for budgeting and monitor financial reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and/or Food Management from an accredited university or college.
  • Seven years of related experience in food production, employee management, logistics, and/or accounting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong coaching and leadership skills in a diverse organization.
  • Understanding of governmental requirements and compliance roles for staff.
  • Ability to accept management responsibilities and work independently.
  • Comprehensive understanding of food sanitation practices.
