About the position

The Executive Director, Assistant Corporate Controller is a key leadership role at Vertex, responsible for overseeing the global financial close and reporting processes. This position plays a critical role in managing the company's accounting functions, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and driving system and process excellence within the Controllership Organization. The role requires collaboration with various corporate partners and the development of a high-performing team to meet the evolving needs of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct all aspects of Vertex's global accounting close and financial reporting processes.
  • Effectively manage and develop both US and International accounting teams, including consolidation, general ledger, SEC reporting, technical accounting, and SOX compliance teams.
  • Coordinate the company's financial reporting activities with external auditors on a global basis, including SEC quarterly reporting, SOX requirements, and statutory requirements for international entities.
  • Plan and execute for impacts to accounting processes and systems driven by Vertex growth from new product introductions, global expansion activities, and business development.
  • Drive the adoption of common processes and standards across the company and in partnership with internal stakeholders.
  • Identify ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of companywide financial reporting.
  • Ensure adoption and compliance with new and upcoming accounting regulations (FASB, SEC).
  • Work closely and communicate effectively with corporate partners in Corporate Finance, Investor Relations, Business Development, Legal, Tax, Treasury, and IT to ensure that corporate information and support needs are consistently met.
  • Develop talent and lead a superior, high-performing team that meets increasing needs and requirements across the business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 15 years of progressive, relevant financial leadership experience, including the management of large teams that are geographically dispersed.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP requirements and Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Big 4 experience and large ($1B+) multinational industry experience required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Finance Process Excellence or Six-Sigma experience a significant plus.
  • Experience in a publicly traded large biotechnology/pharmaceutical company preferred.
