About the position

The Executive Director of the Brain Injury Alliance of Connecticut (BIAC) is responsible for leading the organization in its mission to support brain injury survivors and their families. This role involves managing operations, overseeing program development, and advocating for legislative changes to improve brain injury prevention and treatment. The Executive Director will work closely with staff and the board to enhance BIAC's visibility, secure funding, and build community partnerships, all while ensuring a positive work environment and effective service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, supervise, and manage the staff, including hiring, evaluating, and resolving disputes.
  • Oversee the development, management, and accountability of grants and contracts.
  • Ensure sound fiscal management and financial accountability of BIAC.
  • Report to and meet with the Board of Directors, guiding policy development and keeping them informed on governmental trends.
  • Oversee the management and quality of all programs and activities of BIAC, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
  • Engage in growth-oriented development activities to secure funding and represent BIAC to various stakeholders.
  • Act as spokesperson for BIAC and oversee all legislative advocacy work.

Requirements

  • Background in nonprofit organizational management and program development.
  • Experience in increasing revenues through donor and grant development.
  • Solid understanding of nonprofit finances with complex budgets and multiple funding streams.
  • Experience growing and sustaining a strong board of directors.
  • Strong advocacy skills, including the ability to advocate at the legislative level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Background in human services, disabilities, rehabilitation, or mental/behavioral health.
  • Understanding of the Medicaid system and experience with Medicaid waivers.
