About the position

The Executive Director of Employee/Labor Relations (ELR) and Compliance at Cal Poly Pomona is responsible for overseeing the operations of the ELR unit, providing counsel and direction on HR functions, compliance, and labor relations. This role involves managing complex employee relations issues, conducting workplace investigations, and ensuring compliance with various regulations. The Executive Director will also engage with the campus community to promote diversity and equity, manage staff, and lead special projects related to HR policies and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee ELR unit's operations and provide counsel on HR functions and compliance.
  • Manage formal and informal union grievances and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and prepare related documentation.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure compliance and resolve cases.
  • Develop and implement training programs for faculty and staff regarding EEO and recruitment.
  • Supervise a team of ELR specialists and support staff through performance management.
  • Serve as backup to the ELRC AVP on various committees and initiatives.
  • Develop and present training sessions on University policies and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Experience in public sector case management and HR compliance activities.
  • Knowledge of HR policies including ADA, Workers Comp, and EEOC regulations.
  • Ability to conduct workplace investigations and interpret collective bargaining agreements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Public Administration or related field.
  • AWI Certificate Holder.
  • SHRM Certification.
