About the position

Insmed is a global biopharmaceutical company dedicated to transforming the lives of patients with serious and rare diseases. We are seeking an accomplished Executive Director of Facilities to oversee and manage all aspects of our facilities operations. This pivotal role will report directly to our Chief People Strategy Officer and is essential in ensuring that our facilities effectively support our patient-focused mission. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in facilities management, site selection, lease management, and environmental health and safety within highly regulated environments, particularly in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, both in the US and internationally. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing strategic plans for the facilities department that align with the company's growth objectives and operational needs. You will lead initiatives aimed at optimizing facility operations, enhancing space utilization, and promoting sustainability efforts. Collaborating with strategic real estate partners, architects, and internal stakeholders, you will develop long-term site requirements and lead site selection and relocation efforts as necessary. You will oversee the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and safety of all company facilities, including laboratories, research spaces, and office areas, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements such as FDA and cGMP standards. Additionally, you will champion innovation in facilities engineering, incorporating new technologies to enhance building performance and sustainability. Your role will also involve managing capital projects, renovations, and facility expansions from conception to completion, while negotiating contracts and managing relationships with external vendors and service providers. As a leader, you will build and lead a high-performing facilities management team, providing guidance, mentoring, and professional development opportunities. You will foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the facilities department, ensuring that our facilities not only meet regulatory standards but also support our mission to improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic plans for the facilities department aligned with the company's growth objectives and operational needs.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize facility operations, space utilization, and sustainability efforts.
  • Work with strategic real estate partners, architects, and internal stakeholders to develop long-term site requirements and lead site selection and relocation efforts.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and safety of all company facilities, including laboratories, research spaces, and office areas.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including FDA, cGMP, and other relevant standards.
  • Champion innovation in facilities engineering to incorporate new technologies that enhance building performance and sustainability.
  • Work closely with IT to evolve facility systems and ensure creative and customer-driven solutions.
  • Manage and oversee capital projects, renovations, and facility expansions from conception to completion.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess facility needs and develop plans to support business growth and operational excellence.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with external vendors, suppliers, and service providers.
  • Monitor vendor performance and ensure adherence to service level agreements and quality standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety across all sites in collaboration with the EHS consultant.
  • Work closely with ESG leadership to monitor and support environmental reporting requirements.
  • Build and lead a high-performing facilities management team, providing guidance, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the facilities department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in facilities management, biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry required.
  • Strong knowledge of facility operations, including GMP regulations.
  • Proven track record of managing complex capital projects, real estate negotiations, and facility expansions.
  • US experience required, and X-US experience preferred.
