About the position

The Executive Director of Finance at the University of Miami plays a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of the institution. This position involves assisting in the preparation of various business plans related to assigned facility operations, ensuring that financial strategies align with the university's long-term goals. The Executive Director will participate in both strategic long-range and tactical planning, performing economic evaluations of new programs and equipment to ensure financial viability and sustainability. This includes completing trend analyses and volume projections to inform decision-making processes. In addition to strategic planning, the Executive Director will develop strategic pricing models and conduct sensitivity analyses to assess the impact of different financial scenarios. A critical aspect of this role is to initiate appropriate controls to ensure compliance with operating and capital budgets, working collaboratively with other departments, staff, and external entities to facilitate an effective budget preparation process. The Executive Director will monitor and summarize the status of all financial targets, providing regular updates to stakeholders. The position also involves a significant leadership component, as the Executive Director will train, mentor, and supervise department staff to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. This includes ensuring internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding assets, and maintaining the reliability of internal and external reporting. The Executive Director will create an effective control environment, conduct risk assessments, and implement and monitor necessary controls to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. This role is essential in fostering a culture of accountability and excellence within the finance department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of miscellaneous business plans relating to assigned facility operations.
  • Participate in strategic long-range and tactical planning.
  • Perform economic evaluation of new programs and equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
