About the position

The Executive Director - Flight & Ground EMS Operations at Billings Clinic is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the Mobile Healthcare System (MHS), which includes both flight and ground operations. This position is designed to ensure the highest level of clinical care while maintaining a sustainable and successful operation. The Executive Director will provide overall vision, direction, and management of the MHS, driving organizational objectives by effectively operationalizing changes and initiatives. This role requires a proactive approach to anticipate the needs of the health system and understand the impact of operations on the organization's success. In this capacity, the Executive Director will collect and analyze data, prepare and present recommendations, and explain the associated benefits and risks for improving operations. The role demands a strong business acumen, demonstrating competencies in leadership, financial management, employee engagement, human resources knowledge, organizational dynamics, governance, communication, strategic planning, change management, risk management, compliance, patient safety, patient experience, and quality improvement. The Executive Director will serve as a role model, exhibiting the health system's core values and fostering relationships with health system leaders, departments, and team members to support open communication, trust, transparency, and collaboration. The Executive Director will also be responsible for creating a supportive department culture by fostering individual motivation, coaching, and training for optimum job performance. This includes collaborating with Human Resources to develop and implement programs that add value to the health system, its leadership, and employees. The role involves leading initiatives to improve culture, employee and physician engagement, empowerment, growth, and retention, while remaining committed to the health system's management and prosperity for its customers, employees, and community. Additionally, the Executive Director will interface with leadership and appropriate executives to coordinate and lead the Mobile Healthcare System at all business, financial, and operational levels, ensuring fiscal sustainability and effective administration of the assigned areas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall vision, direction, and management of the Mobile Healthcare System (MHS).
  • Ensure the highest level of clinical care while maintaining a sustainable operation.
  • Drive organizational objectives by operationalizing changes and initiatives effectively.
  • Collect and analyze data, prepare and present recommendations for improving operations.
  • Demonstrate competencies in leadership, financial management, and employee engagement.
  • Foster relationships with health system leaders and departments to support open communication and collaboration.
  • Create a supportive department culture through motivation, coaching, and training.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to develop and implement value-adding programs.
  • Monitor financial performance and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Develop necessary policies and procedures for successful administration and operation.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in business administration, public health administration, emergency medical services or related field required.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years' experience in general emergency medical and medical transportation experience required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in emergency medical and medical transportation services management required.
  • Experience with vision and mission development, budget preparation, and resource utilization required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years' leadership experience required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, and a self-starter.
  • Possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

  • Experience in quality improvement methods.
  • Knowledge of multi-tiered EMS systems and all levels of medical transportation services.
