About the position

The Executive Director of Housing and Residential Engagement at California State University, Fullerton, is responsible for providing administrative oversight and visionary leadership for the housing and residential engagement department. This role ensures that over 2,200 student residents benefit from an exceptional living and learning experience while managing a $30 million annual operating budget and overseeing approximately 33 full-time staff members. The Executive Director will develop and implement operational and programmatic aspects of housing, including safety, advocacy, and community partnerships, while fostering an inclusive environment that supports diverse students and employees.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative oversight and visionary leadership for Housing and Residential Engagement.
  • Manage all aspects of housing operations for over 2,200 student residents.
  • Oversee a $30 million annual operating budget and approximately 33 full-time employees.
  • Develop and implement operational and programmatic aspects of housing, including residential education and community partnerships.
  • Set department goals and coordinate assessment activities to enhance equity and support diverse students and employees.
  • Build and maintain relationships with university stakeholders, including students, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Lead ongoing assessment of on-campus housing and associated capital projects.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in higher education, student services, business management, or a related field.
  • Five years of progressive management experience in college or university administration.
  • Five years of experience supervising full-time staff.
  • Excellent fiscal planning and budget management skills.
  • Experience in strategic planning and project/policy development.
  • Understanding of facilities operations and ability to use assessment for organizational change.
  • In-depth knowledge of theme housing communities and integrated academic residential living environments.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor and develop staff, creating a culture of service and collaboration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Thorough knowledge of relevant policies, state and federal laws related to student housing oversight.
  • Experience working with diverse residential communities, including multi-cultural and underrepresented populations.
  • Experience working with students at the post-secondary level.
